Commercial Rabbit Farming

If you are considering commercial rabbit farming, then you are probably wondering which rabbit products sell the best, and will bring you the most profit, for the least expense. In this article, we look at which products you should focus on, if you want to make money off commercial rabbit production.

Meat Products
Many people struggle with the idea of eating rabbits. However, it’s long been a delicacy in parts of the world even in Malaysia and most of our consumer now start eating it as a healthy meat, and it’s fast gaining popularity in other parts of the area, where it’s low cost, high yield and sustainability are just a few of the driving factors.

If you are looking into commercial rabbit production, then farming rabbits for meat is a great idea, as it is a low cost business to start, requires little in the way of specialized equipment, and can become profitable fast. Here, in Beruas agrofarm we can provide you best quality rabbit breeds included NZ White, Chincillia and Giant Flemish.

Rabbit Wool
Another popular rabbit product that is a good choice for the new commercial farmer is rabbit wool. Angora rabbits are more labor intensive to farm, but their wool sells for a premium price, and since every rabbit can produce wool every three to four months for the duration of their lifetime, it can be a very profitable operation. Buyers in the textile industry buy raw rabbit fur, and then process it themselves.

Rabbit Fur
In recent years, there have been various social outcries about exotic fur trading. However, there remains a demand for fur. Rabbit fur is a by-product of meat rabbit farming, which can bring the commercial rabbit farmer a significant additional income. In Beruasagrofarm we provided you a training to produce quality home made rabbit fur.

As with rabbit wool, the majority of buyers for this type of rabbit product are in the fashion industry.

Waste Products
It is a little known fact, but rabbit faeces and urine are both known to be excellent fertilizers, and if you own and manage a commercial rabbit breeding farm, you can collect these and sell them to other farmers as fertilizers for their crops. As with rabbit fur, this means that even the so-called waste products generated by your business have commercial value.

A Low Cost, High Profit Industry
Because there are so many rabbit products that can be sold commercially, and because setting up and running a commercial rabbitry is a low cost venture, that can be accomplished in a relatively small area, it is becoming more and more common for people around the world to turn their thoughts to rabbits as livestock.

There you have it. Several ideas for profitable rabbit products, that you can start producing with a low outlay, and with less labor than just about any other livestock business out there, and maybe becoming one of our business partner.

Whole Rabbit Cutting - The Cooking Inn

For new beginner, please follow below steps:
Cutting the carcass:

Rabbit carcasses are usually classified as "fryers or young rabbits" and as "roasters or mature rabbits." A fryer is usually a domestic rabbit weighing 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds (<12 weeks of age). Its flesh is fine grained, a bright pearly pink color and tender.

Roasters usually weigh 4 pounds and are from animals at least 8 months old. The flesh of a roaster is more firm and coarse grained than that of a fryer. Roaster carcasses may contain a cream colored fat, have a slightly darker colored flesh, and be less tender than that of a fryer.

The following cutting diagram and description yields portions for individual servings

A. Remove Rear Legs and Tail
Cut parallel to and on each side of tail forward until knife contacts leg bones.
Cut perpendicular to spine in front of hip joint on each leg.
Remove by twisting to separate joint.
Cut through spine to remove tail and tail head.

B. Remove Back and Flanks
Cut through spine and along ribs.
Remove flanks by separating thinner flank from thicker muscles of back.

C. Remove Front Legs through the natural seam between the foreleg and ribs

D. Split the Rib with a cleaver or large knife by cutting through and parallel to the spine.

Most recipes call for the rabbit to be cut into 9 or 11 pieces.Well done

Rabbit meat is a best choice to environment.

Rabbit meat may not be something you have ever tried and you should try and most people haven't likely tried it. For us it is a 'niche' market. It isn't something you see at the local grocery store, local restaurant or that you see in the weekly grocery ad on sale. However, there is probably more about rabbit meat that you don't know besides the taste.

Rabbit is actually becoming very popular due to the fact that it has many benefits over other types of meat. Rabbit is a very environmentally friendly meat. From the space it takes to farm rabbits to the fact they breed quickly, rabbits are a meat that may be something you soon see at the store and may even see on your own table.

To begin with farming rabbits requires very little land and space. Rabbits also breed quickly, with the average gestation period being less than one month. Additionally, rabbits are clean and quiet. This means rabbit meat is quite plentiful and doesn't require large farms which use precious land and create issues with waste and smells. These issues are something major when it comes to other meat sources, like cows and chicken. Here in Beruas Agrofarm the environment is a major factor to raised quality rabbit meat production.

Another great thing is that it is easy to process. Rabbits are easy to slaughter, too. This leads to low costs because they don't cost a fortune to slaughter and get ready for sale.

On the other side of things and the point you are probably wondering about, rabbit is a very healthy meat. It is lean and has a taste that is sweeter and a bit more mild than chicken. It is a versatile meat that can be used in many different ways. Rabbit meat can be turned into burgers, stews or eaten alone.

When it comes right down to it, rabbits are one of the most environmentally friendly meat sources. Here in Beruas Agrofarm rabbits are butchered in the most careful process with HALAL process. They aren't going to become an endangered species and there are many benefits that make rabbit a far better meat source than other options.

Rabbit Fur production

Rabbit fur is a highly sought-after product; here in Beruas Agrofarm we begin to develop our after product from rabbit meat. We know every inch of rabbits have their own value, normally rabbit fur known for its softness, thickness, warmth and durability compare to other fur.

Rabbit fur is commonly used for items such as winter coats (in western), hats, scarves, gloves and blankets. Even in Malaysia, it is hard to find this product. Most of it comes in a variety of colours and patterns. If you are looking for a particular rabbit-fur product, identifying its authenticity and type is key.

Some of the key to determine is by rabbit grooved, short to medium-length hair. Rabbit fur is notably soft and "velvety" to the touch. Coyote fur, on the other hand, is dense and coarse.

With the consultation with experiences people in Museums Department of Malaysia, this is a small steps we taken.

Cooking Tips for Rabbit

Cooking Tips
There are two points to remember when cooking Rabbit:

First, like all game meat, Rabbit is best cooked in a liquid. Yes, you can certainly grill Rabbit if you first brush it well with cooking oil and you can Barbecue Rabbit the same way. If oven-roasting, coat the meat with oil and then wrap in foil. However, Rabbit will be really at its most tender if you cover it, or keep spooning it, with liquid - stock, sauces, marinades etc - while it is cooking. "Slow Cookers" are an ideal way of producing a really tasty, tender meal.

Second, if you want to cook it in a microwave, we suggest you carefully follow the method used in the "Rabbit in Tomato Sauce recipe", detailed in our Simple Recipes section. Many types of meat are difficult to cook satisfactorily in a microwave and for success with Rabbit please follow the guidelines shown!

About rabbit meat

New Years Rabbit Pasta

I wanted to try my hand at a nice meaty rabbit one day in this festive month and here is the recipe I used. It is really delicious served on just about any type of pasta although we chose pen'er pasta. This really could be a meal by itself, especially if you added a nice crisp mixed salad and some crusty Italian bread.

1 Pound Rabbit Pieces
3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Carrot, Diced
1 Small Onion, Diced
1 Celery Stalk, Diced
3 Cloves Garlic, Peeled & Minced
1 Chopped Red Chile Pepper
2 Cans Cherry Tomatoes (Or About 3 Cups Fresh Cut In Half)
Salt & Pepper
4 Tablespoons Chopped Fresh Basil
Chopped Parsley
1 Pound Penne Pasta

To Serve:
Grated Pecorino or Parmesan Cheese
Chopped Fresh Parsley

Heat the oil in a heavy saucepan and brown the rabbit pieces on all sides. Remove to a plate. Add the carrot, celery, and onion to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and beginning to brown. Add the garlic and cook an additional minute or two. Turn the heat up stirring the mixture to scrape up any browned bits on the bottom of the pan. Add the rabbit back into the pan with the tomatoes, red pepper, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Cook over low heat for about 2 hours until the meat begins to fall off the bones, adding a little water to the pan if needed. Remove the meat from the bones and return it to the pan. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.

Cook the penne in boiling salted water until it is "al dente". Drain and return to the pot. Add the sauce to the pasta and stir over medium heat until the sauce is well mixed with the pasta and piping hot. Serve in individual bowls topped with some chopped fresh parsley. Serve, offering grated cheese at the table.

Rabbit Future Trend

Rabbit: The Furry Healthy Alternative

A lot of people may have reservations about the consumption of rabbit meat. Which is a shame, considering that eating rabbit meat is scientifically proven to actually be a much healthier alternative to the conventional types of meat. There are several reasons why it would be beneficial to the well being to go on a steady rabbit meat diet.

One of the main reasons for opting for a rabbit meat diet is the lower cholesterol and fat content. In fact, according to a study made in the Alabama A & M University, rabbit meat contains far less cholesterol than turkey, chicken, pork or beef. The entire rabbit is composed of white meat, which means rabbit meat is leaner and has lesser fat content. Lesser fat and lesser cholesterol allows the dieter to enjoy eating meat without the high risk of heart problems and high blood pressure.

Some doctors even recommend a special diet that consists of rabbit meat for their patients who have certain heart problems and require a lowered intake of fat, cholesterol and sodium. Rabbit meat even has the east amount of calories when compared to other land dwelling animals. Aside from that, the U.S. Department of Agriculture points out that rabbit is the most nutritious meat a person can eat.

The production of rabbit meat is also one of the most sanitized practices in the meat processing industry. Rabbit farming has gone a long way over the years, and new technology, still on develope and research is still on in our university like University Malaya, University Putra Malaysia and University Sains Malaysia to ensure that the health and quality of the rabbit meat are constantly above acceptable conditions.

With the business of rabbit farming on a rise, and the noted benefits of rabbit consumption, it would not be much is a surprise if rabbit meat becomes a worldwide staple diet.

Must Try - Homemade Grilled Rabbit Recipe

Maybe u can try this simple rabbit recipe in your home, actually i used only 1 rabbit around 1.5kg. Preparation time only take 4 hour and can be served for 4 person.(adult)

Ingredients
• 1 x 1.2kg/2½lb rabbit, preferably wild, jointed
• a handful of fresh thyme and rosemary, leaves picked
• 4 garlic cloves, peeled
• olive oil
• zest and juice of 1 lemon
• 1 teaspoon honey
• salt and freshly ground black pepper

U can easily find all this ingredients in local market like carrefour, tesco or etc...even kedai mamak for the arang.

Put your rabbit pieces into a bowl. Using a pestle and mortar, or a liquidizer, bash or whiz up the thyme and rosemary leaves to a pulp, then add the garlic cloves and bash or whiz again. Stir in 8 tablespoons of olive oil, the lemon zest and juice and the honey, and pour this over the rabbit. Put the meat to one side and let it come to room temperature while you light your barbecue.

Now I’m going to talk about flavour. Get a couple of sprigs of fresh thyme and tie them together like a little brush. Each time you turn the meat, dab it with a little of the marinade to give you a lovely encrusted layer of flavour. This rabbit is going to be really tasty!

Keeping the marinade to one side, remove the pieces of meat and season with salt and pepper. Sandwich the pancetta between the 2 pieces of belly using 3 skewers. Put the legs and shoulder on the barbecue. When they’ve been cooking for 10 minutes, put the belly on. After another 10 minutes put the saddle and ribs on. Make sure you turn the meat over every so often. Look after it by controlling the temperature and basting it continuously with the marinade. Cut three-quarters of the way through each kidney and open them out like a book. Cut the liver into 4 pieces and push one piece on to each remaining skewer, followed by a kidney and more liver.

When all the pieces of meat are beautifully cooked, add your skewered bits of kidney and liver on to the barbecue and cook until golden, along with your 2 remaining slices of pancetta. After a few minutes, when the pancetta is browned, put it on top of the meat at the cooler end of the barbie. Now get your guests round the table.

You can serve the rabbit with any white beans, or roast potatoes, or grilled vegetables, or different salads – it really depends on how you feel and what the weather’s like. Just put a big bowl of your chosen accompaniment in the middle of the table and serve all the meat on a board.

Thanks for our chef Jamie Oliver

Rabbit Common Sense

Myth #1
Rabbits can live on just carrots, lettuce, and cabbage. A million non-rabbit people I know think this is true.
--Leah
The Truth: Just like people, rabbits require a balanced diet of vitamins and minerals as well as proteins and fiber. And just like people, they simply cannot survive on a diet limited to just two or three items, especially if one of those items is basically nothing but water (iceberg lettuce). The easiest way to provide for a rabbit's nutritional needs is to find a feed dealer who sells a good quality rabbit pellet. Then you can add the carrots as a treat.

Myth #2
A rabbit can be picked up by its ears. Ouch!
--Stealth Dog
The Truth: A rabbit's ears are not a handle. Try having someone pick you up by your ears if you want to see how it feels! The proper way to pick up a rabbit is to scoop it up, supporting its body with both hands.
--D. Wanda Twellman

Myth #3
Perhaps the worst myth out there is that baby bunnies are weaned and ready to be sold at three to four weeks of age. So many people think that because rabbits are eating solid food at that age that the rabbits are ready to be away from mom.
--Lynelle
The Truth: This is probably one of the myths that upsets the reputable breeders the most. A baby rabbit of only three or four weeks still requires its mother's rich milk even though it may be nibbling solid food. Forcibly weaning it this young can cause serious problems later. Weaning at four weeks of age is strictly for the commercial rabbit meat grower and only under controlled conditions!

Myth #4
You can tell everything you need to know about a rabbit from a pedigree.
The Truth: A pedigree is only as good as the person writing it. Anyone who wants can falsify a pedigree to make a rabbit appear better than it is. I say, know who you are dealing with, and if you feel uneasy, go elsewhere to make your purchase.

Rabbit may be used instead of beef. Rabbit does not taste like any other meat. It has a slightly nutty aftertaste and a light flavor. Lots of people claim that rabbit tastes like chicken.

Rabbits are burrowing mammals that can be kept domestically and also live in the wild. You can buy rabbit meat at specialty meat stores or you can hunt for it.

Fat Burning Benefits of Rabbit

Rabbit is full of protein, low in cholesterol, and low in fat. A 4 ounce portion of rabbit contains only 175 calories, and 7.2 fat grams. This is a little bit less than dark turkey meat without the skin.

Rabbit meat contains a lot of protein and is a good alternative to other kinds of meat. For overall health and proper functioning, the human body must have protein.

Here are some of the vitamins and minerals found in rabbit meat: Copper, zinc, iron, selenium, and the B vitamins 2, 6, and 12. Homocysteine levels are regulated by vitamins B12 and B6. If there is too much homocysteine in the body, it can cause a heart attack, stroke, and/or damage to the blood vessels. The liver is shielded from toxins, the colon protected from cancer, and the bones protected from osteoporosis by these two B vitamins. Rabbit contains vitamin B2 (riboflavin). This is important in supporting oxygen-based energy to the muscles, including the heart.

Glutathione is a protein like antioxidant molecule. It must be constantly renewed. The riboflavin in rabbit meat supports this process.

Rabbit contains selenium that works as an antioxidant to remove free radicals before they can do damage to your body. Some types of cancer, as well as the ravages of aging, can be battled with selenium. Selenium is also very important in maintaining good thyroid functioning and supporting a healthy immune system.

Rabbit meat contains copper, which is necessary for many body functions including the development, growth and maintenance of bodily organs such as the heart, brain, connective tissue and also the bones. The synthesis of proteins and enzymes, the utilization and absorption of iron, and the formation of red blood cells are all supported by copper. Cellular energy is produced by the enzymes. This helps regulate blood clotting, transportation of oxygen, and nerve transmission.

Rabbit meat contains Zinc, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory, that guards against infection. It also helps the body maintain a healthy digestive tract. Additionally, it helps with the absorption of calcium and prevents osteoporosis. It also strengthens the immune system and increases white blood count.

Rabbit meat contains iron, which is a building block of hemoglobin. This is what makes it possible for your blood to carry oxygen throughout your body. Proper metabolism and production of energy depend upon these key enzymes.

"BUNNY-LICIOUS"LUNAR NEW YEAR DELICACIES

New rabbit-inspired reunion dishes and sumptuous seafood fare to usher in the Year of the Royal Rabbit at Szechuan Court (Singapore)
Promising to quell the tiger's roar, the year of the rabbit bodes blessings of peace and harmony, and is an especially auspicious time to renew family ties and strengthen business relations.

Hopping onto the harmonious forecast for this year is Szechuan Court's Head Chef Sebastian Goh, who has specially created two new "bunny-inspired" delicacies to bring together family, friends and associates for hearty reunions this Lunar New Year.
"Lucky Rabbit" Yusheng with Salmon, Tuna, Abalone, Pomegranate, Jackfruit and Beetroot ($188)
Headlining the Lunar New Year celebrations at Szechuan Court is Chef Sebastian's "Lucky Rabbit Yu Sheng", elaborately styled on a platter in the shape of an adorable rabbit, known as one of the luckiest signs in the Chinese zodiac.

This unique creation is not only a delightful sight to behold, but also promises to take your wealth and health to greater heights with every toss and bite.
Traditionally comprising finely-shredded radish, carrots and fish, this festive favourite is given a healthy power-packed twist with the addition of "power fruits" such as pomegranate and beetroot, which are rich sources of antioxidants and cancer fighting agents.

Pomegranate, with its numerous seeds, is a symbol of fruitfulness and fertility in Chinese culture, while its bright red tones add an auspicious touch of colour and tanginess to the dish.

On the other hand, beetroot contains betaine, which is known to significantly lower blood pressure and maintain cardiovascular health, in addition to being rich in Vitamin C, potassium and magnesium.
Spicy Szechuan Heavenly Soup Pot with 18 Treasures and Rabbit Meat (Regular: $198, for 6pax. / Large: $328 for 10pax.) * Option to substitute rabbit meat for chicken meat is also available
Melding Szechuan and Cantonese tradition, Chef Sebastian concocts a spicy rendition of a soup stew abundantly filled with 18 culinary treasures that the whole family can tuck into.

This heartwarming heavenly soup pot brims with premium and freshly-marinated ingredients such as house-smoked abalone, beef tendon, fish belly, fish fillets, fish maw, fish cartilage, shredded fish lips, dried scallops, clam topshell, oysters, meatballs, flower mushroom, chicken mushroom, beancurd and cabbage, simmered in a rich stock and topped with spring onion, chilli and Szechuan peppercorn.
Says Chef Sebastian, "This being the year of the rabbit, I thought that this would be auspicious opportunity to introduce rabbit meat to Chinese diners by adding it into this dish, as rabbit is very seldom featured in Chinese cuisine."
New Lunar New Year Seafood Signatures Other premium highlights from Chef Sebastian's Lunar New Year repertoire include Slow-cooked Marble Goby with Fish Stock and Chinese Herbs ($12/100g), Deep-fried Tiger Prawns tossed with Salted Egg Yolk, Golden Corn and Basil Leaves ($18/100g), and Black Olive Fried Rice served with Braised Black Truffle Oil Lobster ($18/100g).
Lavender Nian Gao ($8 per pc) No Lunar New Year feast would be complete without Nian Gao, or sweet sticky cake, said to bring greater heights of prosperity year after year, as its name implies.

Chef Sebastian has infused the essence of lavender flowers into this time-honoured favourite, with a sprinkling of sliced coconut, creating an exquisite and aromatic dessert.
